Avicenna
The Diethelm Library has three editions of the translation of Avicenna’s encyclopedic book, Qanun fi al-Teb or Canon of Medicine, one of which dates to 1484 and is the oldest publication in the library. After this text was translated into Latin in the 12th century, it was used by European universities as a medical reference through the 16th century. It contains information on contraception and many abortifacients.
