This exhibition was made possible through a Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO) Digitization Project Grant, which awarded funds to the Oskar Diethelm Library for the digitization of the Thomas W. Salmon Papers.

The Library would also like to thank Professor Wendy Moffat for her lecture "Thomas Salmon, Public Health Psychiatrist," hosted by Weill-Cornell Medicine's Psychiatry Department on January 21, 2026 (link to a recording of the talk: here). This talk focused on Salmon's time in the US Army and his public health advocacy after WWI. Subsequent conversations with Professor Moffat after the lecture helped to expand the exhibit's bibliography, drawing on resources outside of the Diethelm.

The Library would also like to thank Megan Beck and the Noble Maritime Collection for providing resources about Staten Island and Sailors' Snug Harbor at the time of Salmon's residence (1903-1917), and for allowing the use of Collection images in this exhibition.
